Diamonds come in every shape, size, color, and quality. The value of these diamonds are determined by what is commonly referred to as the 4 C‘s of diamonds. So what are these 4 C‘s? They are the diamond’s Clarity, Cut, Carat, and Color.
Clarity
Today we will take a look at clarity. The clarity of a diamond can be determined by the number and size of inclusions in a diamond. Just about every natural diamond found will contain some amount of non-crystalized carbon (the element that diamonds are made of). Most of these inclusions can not be seen by the naked eye and require some form of magnification to be found. Lager inclusions can interfere with the dispersion of light and negatively affect the diamond’s brilliance. When more prevalent the inclusions the less valuable the diamond; the fewer inclusions, the rarer the diamond. Each diamond can have inclusions in various positions in a diamond. VVS, VS, and SI inclusions are not visible to the naked eye, they are only visible while using magnification.
